The Process:

As part of the National Youth Conversations 2019, in response to youths’ desire to be empowered to have a greater stake in Singapore’s collective  future. The conversations were centered around diverse topics that mattered to youths, from mental health, to social inclusivity to environmental sustainability, among others. One topic was around youth perspectives on narratives of success, for which Bold was appointed to be the consultant to design and conceptualise a youth conversation, and draw out the relevant insights. Bold designed a three part series, exploring:

  • Stories of Self: In which we sought to draw out the personal values that informed success, as well as tensions with  societal narratives of success, as well as facilitated a space for youths to connect with one another around stories of what mattered to them

  • Stories of Now: In which we facilitated a space to encourage youths to take action via generating new ways out of these tensions through ideation and life design interviews with youths who have travelled alternative pathways to success

  • Stories of Us: In which we designed a collective co-creation process that took the form of 8 pop-up experiential booths, representing 2 sets of four conversations around possibilities, doubts, choices and gifts. This enabled NYC to gain insight into what youths viewed as success at both the individual and collective levels, while enabling youths to visually connect with what other youths were saying.

The insights derived from the experiences and reports contributed to this final output by the NYC on the Youth Conversations 2019
