The Sports Champion; The Helper; The One That Got Away

Alyce used to stay at Jurong East Street 31. She has since moved away to Bukit Timah but continues to serve the Yuhua Community Sports Club for thirty years and counting.

She is a sportswoman turned sports champion; having run hurdles, played baseball and bowling when she was younger. Alyce now organizes community sports programmes in Yuhua.

Apart from volunteering on the Yuhua Community Sports Club, Alyce also volunteers at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Loving Heart. She has a desire to serve and wants to give back to society. In giving, she also gets to make new friends, learn something and become more connected and aware of what is happening in the community.

A day in her life – In the morning, Alyce will go for a game of pickleball and other exercise and fetches her grandchildren after that. She partakes in a myriad of exercises and her schedule is full. She likes to keep herself active. She shared that she is satisfied in that she gives her very best in what she does and how she fills up her schedule. She may be busy but she is happy.

On volunteerism, she feels that there is no need for physical plaques to show appreciation. Often, it is how the organization and the other volunteers make people feel that is most important. She feels respected and appreciated at the places she volunteers in and hence she continues to do so, even though she has moved away.
