The Process:
Set up in 2017, the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) was intended to provide youth perspectives to the National Committee on Prevention, Rehabilitation and Recidivism (NCPR), on policies and programmes that address problems and issues related to juvenile delinquency. In 2022, MSF working alongside MCCY, wanted to explore how they might better leverage the strengths and contributions of the YAG members, a diverse group of 24 persons from diverse backgrounds. Bold designed an engagement process comprising a range of modalities to engage the youths, from storytelling, human libraries to learning journeys. Within the process, was also embedded a series of skills/tools to support YAG members in building up the capabilities to design and execute their projects (e.g. Theory of Change, Stakeholder Awareness.) The YAG proposed initiatives relating to 3 areas: i) creating a better mentoring experience for probationers, ii) a human library to inspire secondary school students to stay in school and iii) highlighting new perspectives on street youths.
